Shahrukh Khan Movies : Rab ne bana de jodi

Cast: Shahrukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Vinay Pathak

Director: Aditya Chopra

Love is a yellow tiffin stuffed with ‘garma garam khana’, balanced between the knees of that scooter rider going down a small-town road, on his way to his public sector office, and fellows called Sharma ji, Varma ji, and Sahni ji.

Or that’s what Aditya Chopra would have us believe. His new film has Shah Rukh Khan playing Surinder Sahni, a small cog in a big ‘sarkaari’ wheel, living an ordinary 9 to 5 existence. He has a best friend who revels in the name of Bobby aka Balwinder (Vinay). And he’s just acquired a new wife, Taani (Anushka), who’s mourning the untimely exit of an old love.

Tiny three-membered cast, instead of the standard full-scale Yashraj ‘baraat’. Middle-class homes and offices, instead of ornate palaces and Swiss chalets.

A hero who wears a thick moustache, black-framed spectacles, and pants which don’t fit. And a simple, unmade-up heroine, dressed, for the most part, in ‘salwaar kameez’ and ‘phulkari dupattas’. No, gulp, pastel chiffons. Could this really be Yashraj turning over a welcome new leaf ? Uh huh : the outlines of the characters are new, but the brush-strokes that fill in the whole, aren’t. In its telling, the few fresh touches in ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ are overpowered by those that are all too familiar.

It opens with one of the oldest tricks in the book – dying dad asking hero to wed heroine. You’re still getting over that when the film whisks you off to Amritsar, where Surinder and Taani’s love story is destined to unfold. It begins well—they sleep sweetly in separate rooms, and swap such winsome exchanges as her saying ‘aap lucky ho ji, ki aap ko kabhi pyaar nahin hua’, with him replying, a tad poetically, ‘isse zyada pyar ki na toh mujhe aadat hai na zaroorat’.

Shahrukh Khan Movies, Dil Se

It is indeed a case of truth proving stranger than fiction with the release of a film on terrorism at the very height of a global terrorist scare. One would think that this fact could only aid "Dil Se" by heightening the impact on the audience. Unfortunately, this is not the case. "Dil Se" is a valiant effort on Mani Ratnam´s part but gets lost somewhere along the way in a weak screenplay and sketchy characterizations.

The first half of "Dil Se" relies more on images than a solid screenplay, but Santosh Sivan´s camera work is simply stunning and perhaps the best I´ve ever witnessed on the Hindi screen. Every image is like a celluloid poem and thus very effective. "Chaiya Chaiya", "Dil Se", and "Satrangi Re" are some of the most aesthetically pleasing songs ever shot. The locations are gorgeous! Mr. Sivan single-handedly holds the audience´s interest despite the fact that they are left to contend with the very drawn out interactions between Amar (Shahrukh) and a cold, lifeless caricature called "Meghna" (Manisha).

Amar is on a terrorist interview assignment for All-India Radio somewhere in a northern territory, where he keeps bumping into "Meghna" (which she says is not even her real name). Despite repeated attempts to get close to Meghna, all Amar really finds himself in is trouble, and after being ditched by Meghna, Amar quickly returns to his family in Delhi and an engagement to the frank and outspoken Preity (Preity Zinta). The audience then learns that Meghna is a terrorist.

The script completely falls apart after intermission. Manisha´s character waxes and wanes between acting human and acting for her terrorist cause, but with no real pattern or logic to her actions. One minute she will feel guilty about using Shahrukh in order that she may be incognito in Delhi, while the next minute she doesn´t bat an eyelid when he´s arrested or in danger. Her breakdown scenes seem extremely forced into the script, and the only reason why these scenes prove even somewhat effective is because Manisha is and remains a phenomenal actress, even in an improperly-defined part like this. The sequence where she tries to cry but the tears won´t come out is mind-blowing, and no other actress could have portrayed this scene as well.

Shahrukh´s character talks forever about how much he loves Manisha, but his "love" really has no reason to be anything more than infatuation and intrigue. Not once do you have reason to suspect otherwise. Again, Shahrukh does the best one can do with his role, but the redundancy and ignorant nature of the part work against him. The chase sequence towards the end shows a new, diversely intense side to Mr. Khan´s acting. Preity Zinta, in the brief but welcome appearance as a real 90´s woman, has a gol-matol face and child-woman quality reminiscent of the late Divya Bharti.

What was the message Mani Ratnam was trying to portray with this film? If he wants us to see how the mind of a terrorist works, he failed, as I could never tell what Meghna´s pattern of thought was. If it was a statement on the futility of terrorism, the statement is incomplete as we never find out if the assassination plan is carried out by the terrorist group. If it is a statement on love vs. warfare, I don´t believe it, because - again - I have no reason to believe that Meghna loves Amar or that Amar is more than infatuated with Meghna. Maybe if Mani highlighted Meghna´s transition more from stoic terrorist to sensitive lover, it would be more plausible. Her action at the very end (one that supposedly proves her love for him) seems to come out of the blue. One moment Meghna is telling her group leader how confident she feels about their terrorist plan, and the next moment she gives up the whole terrorist thing by making her final "act of love" to be with Amar.

I was very sad and disappointed by this film. Mani Ratnam´s strengths are always his intensely-filmed sequences and the portrayal of relationships between people. This film had several great sequences, but the relationship aspect was lacking. This is especially disappointing after we have just seen "Maachis", which excellently portrayed the humanity and love of terrorists. A film that had the potential to be in the league of some of the best cinema ever ends up falling flat on its face. If it weren´t for Manisha and Shahrukh´s excellent performances and Santosh Sivan´s unbelievably good cinematography, I would give this film a much, much lower rating. Ironically, with a title like "Dil Se", the film loses its heart somewhere along the way.

Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham Songs

Shahrukh Khan Song Suraj Hua Madham from Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham

Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham

The year 2001 has proved to be disastrous for the film industry!

Earthquake, threats from the underworld, the biggest of films falling like a pack of cards, the Overseas market going bust, the war directly or indirectly took a heavy toll on the film industry.

The million dollar question is, will KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM bail out the film industry that finds itself in dire strait's Will it prove the saviour for an industry that's thirsting for a hit?

Dharma Productions' KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM, written-directed by Karan Johar, is one film that strikes the right balance between form and content. The final outcome A winner all the way!

Yashovardhan Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan) and his wife Nandini (Jaya Bachchan) have raised their sons Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and Rohan (Hrithik Roshan) showering them with love and affection. Yash has tried to pass on to his sons the values, the heritage and the rich traditions of his family, which he cherishes and holds in great regard.

On the other hand, Nandini has different dreams and aspirations for her two sons. But she shares a special bond with Rahul, the eldest son, who's an adopted child.

Rahul's adoption has always been kept a secret. But ever since Rahul himself found that out at the tender age of 8 years, it has been the reason for his unending devotion and gratitude for his parent's especially his father. His father's every word, every wish becomes an unwritten commandment for him. One that he would never break, but unfortunately he does.

Because Rahul falls in love!

Rahul falls in love with Anjali (Kajol), a bubbly girl from Delhi's Chandni Chowk, who dotes on her younger sister Pooja (Kareena Kapoor) and cares madly about her ailing father Bauji (Alok Nath). A simple girl who Rahul marries and brings home. A girl that makes a proud stubborn man forget that he is a father and reminds a son that he is adopted.

Rahul decides to leave the mother who taught and encouraged him to fall in love and whose every waking moment henceforth will be spent waiting eagerly for her elder son to return home.

But Rohan makes a promise to re-unite the family.

Assembling a mammoth star cast like this must've been a Herculean task. But justifying each of the characters merits the highest praise. With KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM, Karan Johar proves that KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI was no flash in the pan. With KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM, the young director confirms the fact that he is the brightest in film firmament.

The premise of KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM is simple, but it is the storytelling that deserves the highest marks. Actually, the very start of the film makes you sit up and look forward to this thoroughly entertaining ride that lasts 3.30 hours.

Handled with utmost sensitivity, the subject slips between emotional sequences to dramatic confrontations to light moments with utmost ease.

Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan was born November 2nd 1965 in New Delhi, India. Both his parents were Muslims. His father Taj Mohammad Khan was a freedom fighter of Peshawar, British India. His mother, Lateef Fatima, was an adopted daughter of a Major General. Shahrukh´s father came to India from Qissa Khawani Bazaar in Peshawar, while his mother came from Rawalpindi, known today as Pakistan. Shahrukh has an older sister named Shehnaz.
Shahrukh attended St. Columba´s School, where he was accomplished in sports, drama and academics. He won the Sword of Honour, an annual award given to the student who embodies most the spirit of the school. He later attended the Hansraj College to earn an Honors degree in economics. After this, he studied for a Master Degree in Mass Communications at Jamia Millia Islamia.

After his parents passed away in 1991, Shahrukh moved from New Delhi to Mumbai. In that same year, before any of his film releases, he married his wife Gauri Khan, in a Hindu wedding ceremony on October 25th 1991. They have two children. A son named Aryan (born 1997) and a daughter Suhana (born 2000)

Khan made his acting debut in 1988 when he appeared in the television series ¨Fauji¨, playing the role of Commando Abhimanyu Rai. He then continued and played in several TV shows. The most succesfull one was ¨Circus¨ in 1989, directed y Aziz Mirza. ¨Circus¨ was a TV show that told the life of circus performers. The same year, Shahrukh also had a minor role in the English spoken, TV movie, ¨In Which Annie Gave it Those Ones¨, which was based on life at Delhi University and was written by Arundhati Roy.

ImageHe made his Bollywood movie debut in ¨Deewana¨(1992). The movie was a box office hit, and launched his career in Bollywood. His performance won him a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award. His second movie, ¨Maya Memsaab¨ generated some controversy because of his appearance in an "explicit" sex scene in the movie, but he got well acclaim for his performance as a crazed and obsessed lover in the movie ¨Darr¨ (1993) and was nominated for a Filmfare Best Villain Award. He unfortunatly did not get the award that year, but the year after, with his performance in ¨Anjaam¨ (1994) Shahrukh marked his name in the Yash Raj home with ¨Darr¨ and played in more box office hits after. He won his first Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1993 for ¨Baazigar¨. In 1995 he received his second Filmfare Best Actor Award for ¨Dilwale Dulhania La Jayenge¨, which was produced by Aditya Chopra.

1996 was a disappointing year for Khan as all his movies released that year failed to do well at the box office, but 1997 made up for all of it. Yash Chopra´s ¨Dil To Pagal Hai¨ was that year's second highest grossing movie, and he won his third Filmfare Best Actor Award. Earlier that year he booked succes with the movies ¨Pardes¨ and ¨Yess Boss¨

Ever since 1997 Shaharukh only climbed higher in his stature as an actor. He played in several box office hits with several well known names, like Aditya Chopra, Farah Khan and Karan Johar. He had no more challenges set for him until he decided to start producing himself.

Shahrukh turned producer when he set up a production company called Dreamz Unlimited with good friends Juhi Chawla and Aziz Mirza in 1999. The first two of the films he produced and starred in ¨Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani¨(2000) and ¨Asoka¨ (2001) were box office failures. However, his third film, as a producer and star, ¨Chalte Chalte¨ (2003), was the first box office hit from his production house.

ImageIn 2004, he set up another production company called Red Chillies Entertainment and produced and starred in ¨Main Hoon Na¨, which was another hit at the box office. In 2005 he produced and starred in the fantasy film ¨Paheli¨, which was a box office failure, but it was India's official entry to the Oscars for a nomination for Best Foreign Film, but it did not pass the final selection. That same year he also co-produced the supernatural horror film¨Kaal¨, with Karan Johar and performed an item number for the film with Malaika Arora Khan. ¨Kaal¨ was moderately successful at the box office. But he hit jackpot with his latest release ¨Om Shanti Om¨ (2007) , which he produced as well as starred in. It was a box office hit nationally and internationally. In 2008 Shahrukh made his childhood dream come true, well sort of, he wanted to be a football player or a cricket player when he was a young boy, and now Red Chillies Entertainment can call themselves proud owner of the IPL cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders.

But besides acting, producing and even managing a cricket team, Shahrukh still finds time to do some presenting for TV. In 2007, he replaced Amitabh Bachchan as the host of the third series of the popular game show ¨Kaun Banega Crorepati¨, the Indian version of ¨Who wants to be a Millionaire¨. On April 25th 2008, Shahrukh began hosting the game show ¨Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hain¨, the Indian version of ¨Are you smarter than a Fifth Grader?¨

Shahrukh Khan became world´s best known brandname throughout the years. He is world´s greatest artist with a fanbase bigger than Tom Cruise. He may not be the best payed actor for commercials, but he is the only actor with more endorsements than any other in the industry. He is the only celebrity who was approached by Nokia to be a spokesperson for the mobile phone company and now he´s one of 3 Indians mentioned in the latest Fobes list (2008)

Shah Rukh Khan Movies Dil To Pagal Hai

Dil To Pagal Hai Reviews

Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) is a dancer and the director of a successful music and dance troupe. He believes that Nisha (Karisma Kapoor), one of his dancers, is his best friend. Nisha acts like his pal, but is secretly in love with him. On the other track of the story is Pooja, who believes that someone somewhere is made for everyone and when you find that special someone God gives you a hint/signal. Pooja is an orphan, living with her aunt and uncle, and their son, Ajay is one of her closest friends.
Nisha injures her foot and Rahul needs a new dancer. He hires Pooja (Madhuri Dixit). She and Rahul are increasingly attracted to each other, but they act as if it were not happening. Pooja, unknown to Rahul, is already engaged to Ajay (Akshay Kumar), the son of family friends who raised her when her parents died. A romance with another man would be scandalous, and be a disappointment to her auntie and uncle, who want to see her marry their son. She tries to keep her distance from Rahul and he, puzzled by her mixed signals, does not push matters. Nisha, however, her senses sharpened by jealousy, sees it all. Rather than try to stop the affair, however, she decides to leave India for a time and let matters take their course. She truly loves Rahul, and wishes only the best for him. As preparations for the new show continue, Pooja finally tells Rahul that she is engaged to Ajay, and Rahul is deeply hurt. He revises the show to reflect his new unhappiness. Nisha returns from London to view the new production and complains that it has an unhappy ending. Rahul refuses to change it; the story reflects his relationship to Pooja the way he sees it. In the end, Rahul decides to make one last effort to revive his romance with Pooja. Pooja is torn between love and duty until Ajay, who has realized what is going on, releases Pooja from her engagement, and Pooja and Rahul reconcile. As well Ajay and Nisha introduce themselves to each other and Ajay asks whether Nisha is married or not
.

This movie was a Bollywood blockbuster several years ago. At first appearance, it seems like a superficial, silly, sentimental musical about a cynic who learns to love. A closer look reveals more of an almost religious discussion of the nature of love. Are we fated to love the people we wind up with? Why doesn't God give us a clearer sign of what is right for us?
In the story, a successful MTV-style producer offers his adoring public a new show with a new dance star, Maya. Unfortunately, Maya does not exist and he must find her, hence beginning his search to find love. The word "Maya" is a Hindu philosophical/religious concept meaning "the illusion of reality." I think this adds a broader interpretation to the story.
The songs and dances are almost all great and terrific Bollywood. "Koi ladki hai" with the pavement children is one of the best musical numbers I have ever seen. It highlights our hero's first realization that he loves Maya...
